General Dance Information
This is not a historical Jane Austen or “Regency” or eighteenth-century ball! This is a fantasy ball in the style of Bridgerton, and the dances will likewise be in that style and for the most part not even slightly historical. Please do not expect country dances and quadrilles! Our dances are inspired by specific dances from episodes of Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte. We will dance sweet little choreographies for couples* as well as some unchoreographed waltzing and mixer dances such as the wonderful circle mixer dance performed in the Season Two episode “Harmony” and the lively Scottish-style dance from the wake for Lord Kilmartin in the Season Four episode “The Beyond”.
Music will be provided by an excellent string trio experienced at playing for dancing: Catherine Miller on violin, Marnen Laibow-Koser on viola, and Sammy Wetstein on cello.
Please enjoy our gallery of Bridgerton dance images below and check back to those moments in the shows to see what sort of dances we will be doing at the ball!
* Note: couples are two people of any gender dancing together – on the shows both mixed-gender and same-gender couples dance together. Everyone is welcome, and welcome to dance together, at our ball! No partner is required. People generally expect to dance with different people over the course of the evening.
Afternoon Pre-Ball Workshop, 2:00-4:00pm
While learning the dances in advance is not required to attend the ball, and we will teach almost everything during the ball, the dancing goes more smoothly and pleasantly when as many people as possible are already familiar with the dances. If you are new to this sort of dancing or not used to choreographies, having some advance preparation will also help you feel more confident and relaxed at the ball and with the other attendees and thus have more fun!
It you plan to take part in the dancing, we strongly recommend attending the afternoon workshop the day of the ball (at the same location and included in the ball price) and (if local to Connecticut) the pre-ball prep class on March 22nd.
