General Dance Information

This is not a historical Jane Austen or “Regency” or eighteenth-century ball! This is a fantasy ball in the style of Bridgerton, and the dances will likewise be in that style and for the most part not even slightly historical. Please do not expect country dances and quadrilles! Our dances are inspired by specific dances from episodes of Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte, and the Doctor Who episode “Rogue”, which was written as an homage to Bridgerton and choreographed by the Bridgerton choreographer. (See more about that in this short BBC video.)

We will dance sweet little choreographies for couples*, including some that are more like a tango or rumba than anything actually done in the periods of the television shows, as well as some unchoreographed waltz and galop (which did appear on the show) and the wonderful circle mixer dance performed in the Season Two episode “Harmony”.

Please enjoy our gallery of Bridgerton dance images and check back to those moments in the shows to see what sort of dances we will be doing at the ball!

* Note: couples are two people of any gender dancing together – on the shows both mixed-gender and same-gender couples dance together. Everyone is welcome at our ball, and no partner is required. People generally expect to dance with different people over the course of the evening.

Afternoon Pre-Ball Workshop, 2:00-4:00pm

While learning the dances in advance is not required to attend the ball, and we will teach almost everything during the ball, the dancing goes more smoothly and pleasantly when as many people as possible are already familiar with the dances. If you are new to this sort of dancing, having some advance preparation will also help you feel more confident and relaxed at the ball and with the other attendees and thus have more fun!

Please consider attending the afternoon workshop the day of the ball (at the same location and included in the ball price) as well as any or all of the prep classes listed below.
